Finding the Case Studies

January 15th, 2010 Steve Alcorn

When I look at the access statistics from our website it’s not surprising some pages get a lot more hits than others.

Where is this mystery attraction?

Where is this mystery attraction?

Of course, the home page is the most frequently visited, and after that the product data pages. But there’s also a lot of interest in the pages about particular installations. I suppose that’s because it’s fun to read about the wide variety of theme park attractions around the world.

However, I notice that only the featured installation pages get the high traffic; there are tons more that most people never see, and among them are some of my favorite installations.

3D Display Technologies

With the success of Avatar and other recent releases, 3D is attracting a lot of attention lately.

Outstanding 3D

Because they incorporate video sync inputs, Alcorn McBride players such as the DVM/HD and Video Binloop HD are two of the best ways to reliably play back images in perfect sync, a requirement for 3D. There are many way to display 3D images, most of which involve tricking the viewer’s eyes into perceiving two different, slightly offset images. This article at Gizmodo does a great job of summarizing the available technologies: http://gizmodo.com/5084121/giz-explains-3d-technologies

Happy Holidays Your Way!

December 23rd, 2009 Loren Barrows

I hesitated writing a holiday blog post. It seems as if the typical “Happy Holidays from us to you” (although pleasant and sincere) seems a bit overdone to me. So my holiday greetings come with a thought in mind: have it your way. Use this holiday season to do whatever it is that is the most important to you. For me, it’s all about my children…relishing what very well may be my last “Santa” year with our young believers. I also have a Mom who likes to take over the holidays and do “mom” things. A chance for me to put my feet up! Think a moment…what’s your holiday thing?

More to see in Las Vegas!

If your holiday travels or industry trade show events take you to Las Vegas, you may want to include the new Aria Hotel and Casino on your tour.  The fountain show looks spectacular and uses Alcorn McBride equipment!  Check it out on YouTube:  Aria Fountain Show

Technical Support During the Holidays

December 18th, 2009 Adam Rosenberg

My wife calls me a workaholic. That may be true since I really don’t mind handling technical support emails over the holidays. I have to admit though, my motivation is not completely selfless. Our clients create the coolest projects in the world and if I get the chance to help resolve an issue with any of those, well, that gives me something to talk (maybe brag) about. My brother and I have had a pretty competitive relationship since I can remember. What better way to win the “who’s better” contest for the year than to say, “I helped make an attraction work better than ever that thousands, if not millions, of people will enjoy”. Yes, I think I can safely say that I don’t mind receiving technical support emails. :-)

Don’t plan ahead without looking back!

Jim Carstensen

Most people have already begun looking ahead into the new year.  Forecasting, budgeting, goal setting, planning, planning, planning.  Over the last few weeks we have had the pleasure of speaking with hundreds of professionals in our industry at IAAPA and LDI.  Most are optimistic for the upcoming year and some are simply glad 2009 is over.  Over these past few weeks, I’ve often heard the phrase “Don’t look back!”  Which got me thinking, “why not?”

Before our last company meeting, Jim Carstensen, our Director of Engineering, spent time reflecting on and documenting Alcorn McBride’s Engineering accomplishments. At the meeting, Jim shared his year in review. He began by looking at where the group had decided to go and recapped where they ended up.  Not surprisingly, the team had accomplished everything they set out to do and much more.  (Just look at the new products we released in 2009-all Jim’s group!)  Looking back he noted the challenges, setbacks, and the many successes.  After Jim captured the past, he was better able to plan his year ahead.
